... and in the current day... Bill Gates. 

These ultra exceptional human beings need not present themselves as typical alpha males, but nonetheless emerge as very successful individuals in the human society.

Steve Jobs, on the other hand, is the typical alpha male who works and pushes himself (and others) to bits and eventually succumbs to major disease(s).

I think it goes to show that amongst the alphas, there are the more intelligent ones and less intelligent ones.

Regardless of their impending fate of co-morbidity and pre-mature deaths, if you could reach into their brains, you'd realise that most alphas would rather die a horrible death than to allow themselves to slide from their top positions. 

This is because it's always easier to regret at your deathbed (i.e. for a few months) a life without 'taking it easy' or 'spent more time with family' or even 'put together a family', than to have to deal with (i.e. for a few decades) the anguish of a plausible mundane lifetime of being a 'loser'.

Females have it easy. Others and they tell themselves that it's ok for females not to be a winner in this society. Just have children, or adopt some. Motherhood is an option which is accepted and accessible to all.
