Read properly lah. RI boys are the best!

Somehow, a Stomper read one of my old entries from May 2007 titled "Ahhhh.... ACS Boys", and went berserk on Stomp. He thought I was an actual schoolgirl singing praises about ACS boys and calling them 'trophies'.

Because this was in Stomp, it then got circulated via the discussion forums and Facebook. My daily hits tripled for the next few days.

The best part is that this piece of crap was reported in Sin Ming?! When we got this Sin Ming report from a friend via SMS on Sunday, we couldn't stop laughing.
The reporter even reported that a 'parent' he had interviewed agreed that while ACS boys carried themselves well, RI boys had substance. Is the reporter trying to allude that ACS boys have less or no substance?

Then today, this piece of crap is reported again... This time in Edvantage on AsiaOne.

This 'reporter' read up a little more about my blog and Blinkymumy, attempted to cook up a 'better report' by bringing Xiaxue into the picture (remember Xiaxue and her 2 girlfriends set up a hate site for me a few years ago). And, like those before, this 'reporter' conveniently omitted the conclusion of my blog entry.
.................................................................

Key takeaways from this incident:

(i) Mainstream media does not mention my blog(ger) name.
They want to 'create news' using my blog entry, yet do not want to credit it to my blog. Regardless, many onliners were undeterred. Some people have been googling for my blog using the words found on the screenshot of my blog. Nothing is gonna stop them!

(ii) Alas, most people do not read the original entry before commenting.
Because they do not read the original entry, many people continue to think that I am in fact a schoolgirl still in SECONDARY school. At least one forummer saw my pic in that entry and still thought I was a schoolgirl. WIN.

Is such behaviour a unique attribute of onliners?
I think there is an artificial line drawn between onliners and 'real everyday people'. They are the same people. The onliners go to kopitiam for their dinners, eat, shite, drink and sleep like everyone else. They ARE everyone else.

And people everywhere (i.e. all over the world) like to comment without gaining deeper understanding of any issue. Why? Coz it's not about the issue at hand, it's about the act of commenting. This act gratifies them. An accessible mode of self-gratification.

(iii) Choosing an RI boy as a life partner is NOT controversial.
If you notice, the Stomper, most online comments and the Edvantage report have omitted the climax of that entry, i.e. "... amidst the efficient Rafflesian factory, if you manage to find one with some sense of humility, that will be and has to be the Perfect partner for a true-blue SNGS chick."

This must be the most boring conclusion ever, coz few people wanna talk about it. It's more exciting to talk about ACS boys being trophies.

Draw that parallel to dating an ACS boy vs dating a RI boy.

(iv) School (rivalry) is deeply-embedded in our consciousness.
You got to admit it. This is true. And I believe it's probably due to:

(a) Length of time spent in the same school
For some, they may have spent up to 11 years in the same school. (Re: Blinkymummy)

(b) Formative Years
This period of 4 to 11 years is not just any period of one's life, but the 'formative years' aka a period of exploration and discovery. This leaves an indelible mark on one's psyche, shaping it permanently.

(c) Happier Times
That period of one's life is usually tagged with more pleasant feelings, than not. Most of us went through schooldays without worries about livelihood, and spent a lot of time making friends, laughing, gaming etc. These activities gave us pleasure and their paths are hardwired in our brains.

Hence, to activate a positive feedback loop (to evoke feelings of gratification), we keep revisiting these 'good old times'.
